Discover Santa Catalina – A Vibrant Palma Neighborhood

Posted: Monday, 14th October 2019

By day, it’s a cozy place offering shops, cafes and tapas. By night it’s a hip, entertaining experience attracting locals, young creatives and kindred spirits. Santa Catalina, one of the best neighborhoods in Mallorca, is a vibrant little barrio well-known for its combination of old, village life and eccentric, contemporary personality.

Santa Catalina is just a step outside the old town of Palma, so you won’t have far to go from your hotel to visit this gem. What was once a home for mellow fishermen, rope makers and flour millers, Santa Catalina still retains the laid-back atmosphere while blending in a scene of trendy restaurants, bars and nightlife.

During the day you may walk the indoor market where you can pick up some local produce, meats, and cheeses. Then take a stroll through Calle San Magin, a popular street for shopping vintage clothes and home décor. Later, have a tasty bite at one of the many restaurants offering food from all over the globe, then experience the tranquility of the Siesta hours.

Finally, prepare for an evening out in one of the best neighborhoods in Mallorca. Since Santa Catalina is only about 1km square, it’s hard to get lost when you’re experiencing the nightlife. Give the gin-based cocktails a try, or look for the iconic colonial building where Bar Cuba is located. This is a popular spot as a café, bar and nightclub all in one.
